“Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” is a fun little romp into J. K. Rowling’s world of witches and wizards. This story takes place in 1926 and centers on a young British wizard named Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, who comes to New York with a case full of magical creatures he had been rescuing from various places. He crosses paths with a “no maj” (muggle in the UK) and accidentally has his case switched. As you can probably guess, a few of the creatures escape and must be found. On top of all of this, there is a bit of dark magic wreaking havoc upon the city at the same time that needs to be dealt with as well as the obligatory evil plot.
The visuals are on par with those of the “Harry Potter” movies, very imaginative and well done. The story itself was a bit simple yet still interesting enough to keep my attention. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.
