Is it so wrong for me to not really give a crap about opening day for baseball? People around me make such a big deal of it and about baseball in general, but I just can’t seem to get into it. I feel like I’m the only person in the USA that doesn’t really care about the sport. I’m not totally against baseball, enjoyed watching it as a kid and cheered for the Detroit Tigers, but since the 1990s baseball hasn’t really held me captive as a fan. It bores me. I’m usually asleep by the 6th inning. I don’t feel the excitement that everyone else seems to feel.
Yeah, I’ve went to a fair share of baseball games throughout my 20s but for me it was more about getting away from home and hanging out with people rather than it being about enjoying a sporting event. When I lived at home I never got to go out anywhere and I never had any friends to hang out with (seriously a recluse, but not by choice). So of course when some work buddies would invite me out, I would jump at the chance. Besides, should a friend not at least try to share in the interests of their friend? My work buddies (yeah I made a few friends via the workplace for a bit) just happened to be baseball nuts lol.
I can get pumped up for hockey, American football, and Premier League Football (soccer), but baseball doesn’t thrill me and people look at me like I’m from outer space or they think I’m joking around. Just the other day my boss tells me to remember to wear my Tigers stuff on Monday and I told her I had none, she looked a bit shocked. Yep, I’m definitely an oddball I suppose.
